Research Seminar: Julie Rickwood
From left, Tim Steward, Thomas Kidd, Reuben Schafer, Alistair Richardson and Clea supporting Green Music Australia’s Stop Adani/No New Coal Campaign (used with permission of GMA)

There’s no music on a dead planet

This seminar explores the intersection between popular music and environmental activism. It examines the phenomenon of Green Music Australia, investigating the framing of its political and cultural imperative for climate change activism. I also explore the way climate change has caught the musical imagination, considering the role music plays within collective action and social movements. It is drawn from a forthcoming article in Perfect Beat: The Asia-Pacific Journal of Research into Contemporary Music and Popular Culture.
